Generator Control Units
The Generator Control Unit (GCU) is defined as a multifunction electronic device which controls and protects the primary DC electrical power generation system.
Control functions include voltage regulation, line contactor control and in the case of two terminal Starter/Generators, start functions such as start contactor and field weakening. It may also include parallel regulation (load sharing) in some twin engine applications.
Protective functions will include field disable (for three terminal machines), overvoltage, and reverse current or low voltage disconnect.
